Our Eye Exam
At EyeStyle Centre, your eye sight is important to us, which is why we recommend regular eye tests by a qualified optometrist. There is much more to an eye test than simply checking if you need new glasses. Many aspects of ocular health and also general health are assessed.
In some cases you may be entitled to a free NHS eye test and help towards the cost of corrective glasses if you need them. If you have any questions about what you are entitled to, Just ask one of our friendly EyeStyle Centre staff and they will be more than happy to help.
Some examples of the conditions that an eye exam can detect:
High Cholesterol
A white ring on the edge of the cornea can indicate this Diabetes - Causes blood vessels to leak and grow differently than normal
Cataract
Clouding of the lens within the eye Macular Degeneration - Characteristic signs are seen at the back of the eye
High Blood Pressure
Causes changes to the shape and size of the blood vessels Multiple Sclerosis - Causes changes to the appearance of the optic nerve.
UV Light Damage
UV can cause discolouration and disruption to the white of the eye Glaucoma - Optic nerve damage can be seen
Other checks can detect thyroid issues and even tumours. It is important to have regular eye examinations to thoroughly assess the health of your eyes as well as your sight.
We provide NHS eye sight tests. The NHS Free Eye test is free if:
You are under 16 years of age or 16, 17, or 18, and in full-time education.
You are 60 or over, or you have been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma.
You are 40 or over, and your mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter has been diagnosed with glaucoma.
An ophthalmologist (eye doctor) has advised you that you're at risk of glaucoma.
You are registered as blind or partially sighted or you or your partner, receive Income Support.
You or your partner receives Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance.
You or your partner receives Income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
You or your partner, receive Pension Credit Guarantee Credit.
You're entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate.
You are named on a valid HC2 certificate.
Your sight tests are usually done through a hospital eye department, as part of your care for an existing eye condition.
You are prescribed complex lenses (lenses with a power of 10 dioptres or more, or prism controlled bifocal lenses).
